The Age of the Right (Side of the Brain)
Updated: Oct 3, 2019
In a Whole New Mind, author Daniel Pink states that society is entering a new age where the strengths of the right-side of the brain will be prized, particularly as automation and out-sourcing take over innumerable industries. The strengths of the neglected right-side include inventiveness, playfulness, empathy, spontaneity, and flexible-thinking, and have been woefully shunned in Western education and general society. These strengths play out to simply being emotionally intelligent and self-aware, and are quickly becoming more desired -more needed- in every facet of modern work and life. We have begun to outsource the logic side of our brains to computers, but there is no substitute, no way to artificially replicate our creative side -and the other important functions of the right side of the brain.
Our society has hyped and over-valued logic-based, analytical thinking for so long, that the creative side -the right-side- may be atrophying after so much general under-use. We've long held to the belief that art and music ability are reserved for a talented few, and everyone else maybe paints with a twist every now and then, but learning to really use -to consciously stimulate- the creative side of our brain can make a real difference in a person's life.
It has long been held that r-mode functions were inferior to left-mode, but that belief has been proven wrong. The truth is, we can only expect change within ourselves, and within society, to the degree that we are willing and able to train -and then use- the right side of our brains. Only by using our whole minds will innovation continue. We know how to use the left-side, now it's time to learn how to use the right. That's my niche.
Cuts to education always hit art and music first, but what we're really doing is preventing children from learning how to use their whole brains! Maybe creativity takes its licks because we've now mostly come to associate creative endeavors with entertainment, and we have no easy reference for the healing, empowering benefits of exercising r-mode thinking, of art, of creativity. Again, thinking with our whole minds.
After generations and generations of focus on math and science, it's only the artists, musicians and writers that still actively use the right side of their brains, but it's critically important for everyone....for the health of the whole brain.
Learning how to turn on R-directed thinking is the as-yet untapped super-strength of the future. With my guidance, folks can learn how.
I've taught thousands of students how to access the right side of their brains, so that they can think more creatively, not just in class, but in life.
Let me teach you how.
